Carousel grinding
Precision machining of large components
Carousel grinding is a specialized finishing method that ensures a perfectly smooth and even surface on large flat or ring-shaped components. This process utilizes carousel grinders, which machine the part in a rotational motion, providing uniform grinding across the entire surface.
At TOOLE, we perform carousel grinding for components with large diameters, maintaining high dimensional accuracy and surface quality in accordance with technical drawing requirements.
Scope and machining capabilities
We grind components with diameters up to 1200 mm and heights up to 500 mm (or as per individual arrangements).
We work with structural steels, tool steels, hardened steels, as well as cast iron, aluminum alloys, bronze, and technical plastics.
The process is carried out by experienced operators who monitor machining parameters in real time, ensuring surface roughness as low as Rₐ = 0.2 µm.
Applications of carousel grinding
Carousel grinding is used wherever high flatness, surface parallelism, and dimensional accuracy are required.
At TOOLE, we handle orders for the following industries:
- Machinery and tooling – plates, bases, housings, rings, discs,
- Automotive – structural components, hubs, drums, flanges,
- Energy and industrial – components of large mechanical systems, base plates, gearbox elements.
Why choose carousel grinding at TOOLE?
- We help achieve perfect flatness and parallelism of components, even for large-scale parts. With our expertise and advanced machinery, we guarantee precision down to hundredths of a millimeter.
- Every component is crafted with consistent parameters—regardless of production scale. We grind both hardened steels and high-hardness metal alloys.
- We support our clients at every stage—from analyzing documentation and preparing the technology to final quality control.
We make order fulfillment as simple and predictable as possible. That's why we follow a clear workflow:

We provide grinding services for a wide range of materials—primarily steel, non-ferrous metals, and cast iron.
With the proper selection of grinding wheels, working parameters, and technology, we can effectively process structural steel, tool steel, and stainless steel. Similarly, we work with non-ferrous metals—such as copper, brass, aluminum, and aluminum alloys—while maintaining high surface quality and geometry. For cast iron materials, we handle the grinding of castings, including both gray and ductile iron.
Each project is treated individually—before starting, we analyze the material’s specifics, machining condition, and tolerance requirements to select the best methods and technological parameters. This ensures high-quality execution and consistent results.
As part of our carousel grinding services, we can process components with a diameter of up to 550 mm. This means that any element with a maximum diameter within this range can be effectively and precisely ground by us—while maintaining the required tolerances and surface quality.
This diameter range allows us to handle both standard and slightly larger components that fit within this limit. For components with diameters approaching 550 mm, we encourage you to contact our technical department—we will help verify the feasibility of the project and recommend the best solutions to achieve the desired results.
We perform carousel grinding with exceptionally high precision—our tolerances are ± 0.005 mm.
We ensure that every component is crafted within strict dimensional limits, meeting the expectations of even the most demanding clients. This guarantees that deviations do not exceed a few microns, ensuring perfect fit and functionality of the machined components in their intended applications.
If you have specific tolerance requirements, we are happy to discuss them and tailor the grinding process to your exact specifications.
For our carousel grinding services, we ensure a surface roughness level of Rₐ = 0.2 µm.
This level of roughness means that the surface after machining is exceptionally smooth—any irregularities and micro-grooves are minimized to an extremely low level. As a result, components requiring precisely controlled surface structures—such as mating parts, seals, or precision bearings—achieve the necessary finish for optimal functionality.
By adhering to this roughness standard, we meet the criteria of many technical drawings and industrial specifications. If you require a different roughness value—whether higher or even more refined—please indicate this in your technical documentation or inquiry. We will then assess whether the process can be adjusted to meet your specific requirements.
Our technology allows us to grind shafts with a maximum length of up to 1500 mm.
Thanks to our modern machinery and precisely controlled carousel equipment, we can process components of this length with high accuracy.
If your shaft exceeds this length, feel free to contact us so we can assess whether it can be machined in stages or using an alternative method.
